In the bustling streets of New York City, amidst the vibrant energy of the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon, a remarkable team took on the challenge, not just as runners, but as warriors with a cause close to their hearts. This team including survivor, caregiver and family member of a survivor embodied resilience, strength, and the unwavering spirit of support for survivors of craniopharyngioma.

At the forefront of this inspiring journey is Tara O’Brien, a true testament to the power of determination and perseverance. As a survivor of craniopharyngioma, Tara faced immense challenges, yet she refused to let her diagnosis define her. With courage as her compass, Tara embarked on her first half marathon, crossing the finish line in a remarkable time of 2:08:15. “I still can’t believe that I could do THIS!!!!” Tara exclaimed with joy. Her journey not only symbolizes personal triumph but serves as a beacon of hope for countless others battling similar obstacles.

Accompanying Tara on this empowering endeavor was Deborah Ballard, a dedicated supporter and Wood family member and Amy Wood, RAWF executive director and caregiver to Alex, a craniopharyngioma survivor. Together, they formed a formidable force, united in their mission to raise awareness and funds for the Raymond A. Wood Foundation. Their commitment to the cause propelled them forward, mile after mile, as they ran with purpose and passion coursing through their veins.

Beyond the physical feat of completing a half marathon, this team achieved something far greater: they amplified the voices of survivors, advocates, and allies worldwide. Through their collective efforts, they raised an incredible $10,935, a testament to the generosity and solidarity of their supporters.

Tara expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you to EVERYONE for the cheering, encouragement, donations, support, and love through THIS race – and throughout my ENTIRE marathon of a health/healing journey that brought me HERE!!! Words do not even begin to express the immense gratitude in this heart!”

As the cheers of spectators faded into the distance and the adrenaline of the race subsided, the impact of Team Raymond A. Wood Foundation continued to resonate. Their journey serves as a reminder that with resilience, determination, and unwavering support, anything is possible. Together, they exemplified the power of community, proving that when individuals come together with a shared purpose, they can move mountains and inspire change.

As we celebrate the accomplishments of Team Raymond A. Wood Foundation in the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon, let us also honor the countless individuals whose lives have been touched by craniopharyngioma. Their strength and courage fuel our collective commitment to advocacy, research, and support, ensuring that no one faces this journey alone.

In the footsteps of Tara, Deborah, Amy, and their supporters, may we continue to stride forward with resilience, unity, and unwavering determination, knowing that together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by craniopharyngioma. It is not too late to support this team and the future of research for hypothalamic-pituitary brain tumor survivors.
